Pa. chiropractor sentenced in W.Va. for fraud
Duke and other chiropractors do, he explained, is to remove subluxation, or pressure on the nerves, that leads to a host of problems. Because the central nervous system is vital to the body’s functions, Dr. Duke said, pressure can cause an array of problems including back pain or bloody noses much like Poelaert faced. He said good chiropractic work can relieve those symptoms. With the help of regular chiropractic adjustments and exercises done at home, the bulk of Poelaerts symptoms were gone. “It was life-changing,” Poelaert said. “It’s a miracle that I’m here today. Knowing what he’s done for me, I’m forever in debt for this.” The practice has gained recognition in recent years, however, and a number of veterans are turning to it to relieve chronic pain. For his part, Dr. Duke said he hopes more veterans with problems like Poelaert’s will seek the help of chiropractic, and will only utilize surgery and painkillers when absolutely necessary.

Westminster Chiropractor Helps Patients Lose Weight Safely
8, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — A Westminster chiropractor has added a protein-rich weight loss plan to his clinic’s wellness strategies. According chiropractor bayview and sheppard to Dr. Randy Snyder of Lifetime Health and Wellness, the Ideal Protein diet plan, which emphasizes proteins and other nutrients vital to health while limiting sugars, helps patients burn carbohydrates and fats without reducing muscle mass or placing themselves at risk for malnutrition. “Maintaining a healthy weight is critical for wellness and sensible weight loss and nutritional strategies complement and enhance our holistic care services. We’re excited to offer this plan to our patients,” says Dr. Snyder. The practitioner notes that obesity causes or contributes to serious and even life-threatening chronic health conditions, from type 2 diabetes and organ damage to an elevated risk of cancer. On the musculoskeletal level, he adds, excess pounds place an unwanted strain on weight-bearing joints, making overweight individuals prone to osteoarthritis and other forms of progressive joint damage. “It is also a fact that extra weight can aggravate spinal misalignments and imbalances, and this can make you vulnerable to herniated discs and pinched nerves,” states the Westminster chiropractor. But while it may be in his patients’ best interests to shed pounds quickly and efficiently, Dr. Snyder voices the concern that many fad diets can do more harm than good to these individuals’ health. Diets that do not take nutritional balance into consideration, he observes, can cause the body to burn lean muscle as well as carbohydrates and fats, the two substances the body normally turns to first for energy. He explains that carbohydrates are converted to fat and stored in the body’s fat cells for later use, but when people take in more of these substances than they can burn as fuel, obesity results.

“Through my years of practice, I find this is far more effective than relying on medication to mask these symptoms or placing a patient’s health at risk with surgery.” According to Dr. Goldman, natural aging typically causes disc herniations. The body’s gradual aging process wears away at the disc. At the same time, the discs naturally lose some of their water content due to aging. This combination of wear and tear increases the risk for a herniated disc as individuals’ age. In some cases, a traumatic accident injury , such as a slip and fall or improperly lifting a heavy object, causes the herniated disc. “Imagine that your spinal disc is like a jelly donut,” said Dr. Goldman. “A herniated disc occurs when the soft inner casing slips through the outer casing, just like the inside of a jelly donut protruding through the donut’s exterior. Once this herniation occurs, the disc may irritate nearby nerves and trigger intense pain.” In addition to chronic back pain, symptoms of a herniated disc include mild tingling or numbness, weakness, and arm or leg pain.
